dreaming bittersweet

I have been replaying the Suikoden games recently and want to write some Suikoden ficlets. If anyone sees this, give me a prompt! Gen, Het, Slash, Femmeslash... It's all good! I like pretty much all of the characters. I have a fondness for pairings derived from deep canon friendships like Riou and Jowy (and Nanami or any combination therein), Rahal and Rooj, Miklotov and Camus, etc. I also adore canon romances like Sierra and Nash, Jowy and Jilia, and Prince and Lyon. But don't feel like you have to stick with those. Challenge me! :)

I should know that I am not at all comfortable with Suikoden 4 or Tactics canon. I've never played either myself (the random battle frequency was my doom, I get bored and the plot of that one didn't make up for it), but I have WATCHED them played and I love everything about Ted, so he's a safe character, but most of the other non-essential characters I only have a vague recollection of.

Tierkreis prompts are also more than welcome.

So, wow, 2010, what good were you?

What Happened to Me in 2010, a short list.

January-April 

• Things went pretty smoothly. Can't remember anything particularly good or bad here.

May 

• Got laid off from work.

June 

• Terrible case of bedbugs rampant throughout apartment building, but since we're moving in the end of July they decide not to treat out unit, because that involves packing all of our stuff and moving it somewhere else for two weeks anyway.
• Subsequently I spent roughly 8 weeks being devoured by beg bugs.
• I am apparently ALLERGIC to bedbugs, because I had a much more extreme reaction to the devouring and was covered in excruciatingly itchy, red welts that left bruises for weeks after I moved out of the apartment.

July

• Still bedbugs.
• Boyfriend nearly dies on the highway trying to drive to Alabama, where we are moving, after three of his tires blow out, but is ultimately uninjured.
• I nearly kill myself trying to pack all of our stuff, by myself, in a week. 
• Which turned into four days because one of my friends who was going to help me move could only help on that specific day. 
• And then he canceled anyway.

August

• Boyfriend graduates from college.
• We move to Alabama and begin living with Boyfriend's father and step-mother. 
• Continuing in the fashion of "you should have known better", I paid for all of the moving expenses.
• I find a job not pertaining to my degree right away.

September

• I expected to have our own place by now, but no move has been made because Boyfriend hasn't found a job yet.  And has not had a job "because of course loads" since sometime in 2009, so has nothing saved.
• I get another job not pertaining to my degree to compensate.

October

• Passes in a haze of working two almost full time jobs with no days off except maybe every other week.
• All of the cleaning chores Boyfriend's parents assign get passed to me and I get blamed by everyone when they don't happen.
• Fights about the future with Boyfriend go here.
• I become Pregnant.

November

• Fights develop into him yelling at me and be sobbing helplessly because, you know, I didn't do it by myself.
• Still working two jobs.
• Break up with Boyfriend sometime before Thanksgiving.
• Wait to tell everyone until after Thanksgiving.
• I lose the pregnancy sometime in the middle.  No one but Ex-Boyfriend ever knew about it, so it doesn't matter anyway.  Right?

December

• Move back to Florida and back in with my parents.
• Chafe because even though I'm 25 and have been completely on my own for 4 years, I am still their "baby."
• Love and appreciate them anyway.
• Got a job not pertaining to my degree fairly quickly!
• Pass New Years alone for the first time in 5 years.  Become overwhelmed by self-pity even though things are going relatively okay.

I can't help but wonder if the fact that I like David is enough to overcome the million-and-one "hates" that The Last Remnant inspires in me.

It's just that I am 99.99% sure that I hate everything about the game's execution except for David, Emma and the voice acting. But I like David, Emma and the voice acting a LOT.

My boyfriend is a very self-centered man, without realizing it.

Had the first full day of my new job today, came home and was very tense. Asked him what he wanted for dinner and he suggested KFC, but on further prodding he said he didn't especially care what we had. I told him I'd prefer not to get fast-food because I can't afford it. After being jobless for two months I can barely afford next month's rent. He didn't say anything and when we left I assumed we were going to the grocery for food that I can buy with my food stamps. Instead we went to walmart (we don't have a super walmart) so he could buy marshmallows and I could get catfood (although he forgot I even needed to get that). After that I asked him, "so now where are we going?" hoping the answer would be either "home" or "publix". What I got was, "KFC!" :\

He blew up at me when I said that I'd just eat something at home, but he could go ahead and get what he wanted. Add that to a long, stressful day and I burst into tears in the car, sobbing about money and rent and cats and jobs.

Sure he turned around to go to publix. But then he made me cook while he showered. Haha. This is going to get old quick unless he finds a job, too.

So I just got Richard in my Suikoden 5 replay. And he's never leaving my party again. That poor guy, he would have totally won the Sacred Games if he hadn't been drugged in the first round. I had forgot that little detail about why he was in the Waterfall Basin to begin with.

It's just, not only is Richard hands down the most powerful melee character (I won't say "the most powerful character" because Zerase exists and, well...) but you get him at level 44. Belcoot comes to you at level 36, and he was winning the Games with no struggle. With so many bad-ass competitors, it's no wonder Gizel had to resort to drugging them. (Especially since Childerich probably the lamest character in the game. Him beat Richard or Belcoot? Pfft.)

It's funny, though. Richard is definitely the strongest melee character in the game and I would say he'd probably beat out everyone in the other games, too (I can't really think of a stronger fighter right now. Maybe Valeria or Viktor?) But he doesn't realize it! He's so clueless, he's never really been trained. I think Mueller just sort of looks at Richard in a sort of paternal despair and sends him off to keep his silly little head occupied until he's needed whenever Richard asks him for training.

What would Lym's marriage to Richard have looked like? XD I imagine they would have been delightfully clueless with each other. Richard probably would have run out of their marriage night (assuming they waited for marriage until Lymsleia was old enough to consummate) saying something along the lines of "AHHH, girlparts! Mueller what do I do??"

Job hunting is in no way a fun or entertaining venture. It's been about four weeks since I was fired, and I live in Florida, which is on the top 10 list of unemployable states, yay!

So I've had a lot of time on my hands! I've been considering getting back into writing, trying to finish my novel, etc, the usual. Mostly I've been replaying Vagrant Story. There is so much of that game that requires a replay, I never knew. I pieced together most of what was going on when I sat down with the plot after I first beat it, god, 10 years ago. It's been one of my favorite games ever since. But even then you don't think about the seemingly insignificant details that mean so much.

My boyfriend says he tried to play the game years and years ago but he couldn't get into it because it's what he calls a dance sim. His other reason is that Ashley is alone the whole game. But? His favorite game is Parasite Eve which, correct me if I'm wrong, is even more stark and lonely than Vagrant Story. At least Ashley runs into Sydney every five minutes. :p
